How to Kiss
This week, Emma and Sam had a discussion during lunch on kissing. It all started when they found out that Jacob would be a teenager at his next birthday, and Emma asked if Jacob would be leaving home to live on his own. Rebecca told Emma that Jacob would still be living with us for a few more years, and then Emma said, "I know, that means that he will be able to kiss." Then Sam said, "I already know how to kiss," and demonstrated with a few lip smacks. Emma then said, "Well, this is how I kiss: mmm, mmm, mmm" with her lips pursed and arms outstretched ready for a hug.

First basketball game
Jacob, a friend, and I went to Kirtland Saturday morning for a stake young men's basketball game. Mayfield Ward and Chardon Branch combined to form a team to play against the kids from Perry. They had about 10 players, and we had six. They had practiced as a team, and two of our players (Jacob and his friend) had never played basketball competitively before. It was fun.
I got to be a referee, though I didn't know that would be my job until a few minutes before the game started. I got to run up and down the sidelines, watching the boys play and trying to remember the important rules. It was clean game, but definitely not a skilled game. The other referee was also a last minute recruit and a dad of one of the Mayfield-Chardon players. I am certain that I missed a few fouls, especially according to the rumbling I heard from the Perry bench. My primary focus was to make sure the boys were having fun, showing good sportsmanship, and learning a bit about the game.
Jacob had a good time. I could tell that he was nervous about being on the court, especially since he was up against boys that were a foot taller than him. I told that even small guys could get into a tall players face. We will get to play a few more times this winter.
